What Collesano Oil Is

Collesano Oil is a small collection of extra virgin olive oils from individual producers in Collesano, a town in the Madonie mountains of Sicily. Each bottle comes from one person, one harvest, one place.

We do not blend oils from different producers. We do not buy from cooperatives. Every bottle is labelled with the producer's name, the cultivars in their grove, and the year of harvest.

Why Collesano

Collesano sits inside the Parco delle Madonie, a 40,000-hectare natural park in the mountains behind Palermo. The olive groves here are small, scattered across hillsides, and often worked by one person or one family.

The land is cultivated without synthetic chemicals, using traditional low-intervention methods. These are not industrial farms. Most trees are decades old, some much older. The groves produce limited quantities each year.

Why Single-Producer Matters

Most olive oil on supermarket shelves is a blend of oils from many farms, sometimes many countries. The label says "Italian" or "extra virgin," but the origin and producer are unknown.

Single-producer means you know exactly who made your oil, where the trees grow, and what cultivars are in the bottle. If you like one harvest, you can return to the same producer. If the style changes year to year, that is the terroir, not an anonymous factory.

What Traceable Bottles Mean

Every bottle we sell can be traced to:

  • A named producer (Giuseppe or Nicola)
  • A specific grove in Collesano
  • The cultivar(s) in that grove
  • The harvest year

This is the opposite of commodity oil. You are not buying a brand. You are buying the work of a specific person in a specific place.

How This Differs from Supermarket Oil

Supermarket extra virgin olive oil is typically blended, deodorised, and priced for volume. It may be months or years old by the time you open it. The producer is unknown.

Collesano Oil is pressed within hours of harvest, bottled in small batches, and shipped directly from Sicily. It is a seasonal product with limited availability, not a year-round commodity.

Harvest 2025

Olives in Collesano are harvested by hand between October and December. The 2025 harvest oils are now available in 250 ml and 500 ml bottles.

Once a harvest sells out, it is gone. We do not carry over stock between years. If you want oil from a specific producer or cultivar, buy early — quantities are small.
